We have been working with Falkirk Council to provide facilities management to the council’s PFI schools, since August 2000. At contract signature, Falkirk Schools project was the largest education PFI project launched in the UK and is considered a pathfinder for other similar projects. The contract comprises provision of four replacement high schools on existing sites, with operational services, including swimming pools and all weather artificial sports pitches.
key successes
One of the key aims of the project was to contribute to the regeneration of the area. As part of this, the schools now offer high quality leisure facilities which are used by the local community. With increased additional use, energy consumption can increase. As a result, we are developing more initiatives with the schools and the council through the Energy Management Forum. We have also set up recycling schemes and installed sensory lights in toilets. Through working with the council, we want to increase awareness of this issue with students and the community.
