South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executuve (SYPTE) know that winter gritting is always a difficult balance between cost control and risk management.
SYPTE, who operate Sheffield tram system as well as the network of park and ride car parks across South Yorkshire, chose to use our winter gritting service for the first time in winter 2007/08.
They made good use of the new technology we adopted this year which includes e-mail and SMS notification of our intention to grit, as well as an interactive website which shows a gritting history for each site. In all, we have carried out more than 15,000 grits this year, right across the UK.
